Croplines

It's been a while since I've had a coffee here.  I always expected a lot since they have a selection of coffee roasts but I really disliked the "house roast" and this always seemed to me to be a bit soft.  However on this visit I asked for a Columbian and a French roast and that was not a problem at all, so I would strongly recommend going for one of the roasts that you woud like to try.  In general its a pretty good spot to drop into.  Casual seating inside and out with a couple of cakes/biscuit options for a nibble.  The coffees were pretty good with a really nice flavour.  I would now stop by again and try some richer roasts and hopefully get some advice from the staff as to what is what with their blends/roasts.  All in all a very pleasant experience, 3.5 out of 5.

The Pantry

The Pantry has two seating areas.  The main area where you order your coffee is mainly the cafe/food section, while next door is the quiet coffee area.  The coffee was kind of OK but nothing special.  The seating was uncomfortable and awkward but the area felt like a good out of the way area to grab a coffee  but the coffee wasn't good enough to match up. 2.5 out of 5.

This Cafe

I was a bit nervous once I seen they served Moccopan.  However it was a bit better than I exepected.  Nicely served up and not bad flavour at all.  Plenty of seating and food options and generally a nice little place to meet and catchup.  2.5-3 out of 5

MoJo Music Cafe

Pretty standard stuff.  Coffees were ok but nothing special and not of a flavour that I particularly enjoyed.  Plenty of food options and the seating is fine.  Bruno Rossi is the blend used and I'm not a fan, I find it too harsh and lacks smoothness of flavour but that's a personal view after all. But all in all 3 out of 5.

P X Tapas

What a great little find.  Genovese coffee served in a no nonsense laid back atmosphere.  Just a few tables and chairs, a little alcove and a communial table to sit at.  The coffee was great, beautifully made and went down a treat.  Just the place to escape to and chill out.  I think they serve breakfasts and a couple of small food options.  Interior is basic and unpretentious and lends itself to allowing the solitary coffee drinker get away from it all or a little nook for friends to catch up.  4 out of 5

Brewed Awakening

Pretty much a big disappointment.  I was expecting alot from here but it just didn't deliver, in fact one of the main reasons why I started this blog was because of cafes like this.  You pay decent money for a cup of coffee and end up with what tastes like flavoured milk and not much better than a Nescafe or Moccona.  I just don't undertand it.  The atmosphere was pretty cold if not frosty and although they have easy chairs and free WiFi, I didn't want to stay any longer than it took to choof my coffee down.  Probably won't be back 1.5 out of 5

Morty's Coffee & Wine Bar

Gosh not sure I should say too much, probably down to the fact that they serve Coffex rather than how the staff make it and I really struggle with Coffex, it just isn't for me.  Not the best atmospheric place to go for coffee in the first place but if you want a coffee after your meal, then probably best to stroll off to somewhere else.

Exeter Bakery in the City

Bruno Rossi served here.  Quite nice but nothing special.  Definitely above average but not much more flavourwise.  Plenty for food options and they have a loyalty card with every 10th one free.  Interiors are relaxed and comfortable so woth a stop by incase your taste is more in tune with Buno Rossi than mine.  3 out of 5

Pierre's George Street

Excellent. This is now a Lavazza cafe I think and that might make me a little biased as Lavazza and Vittoria are my favourite coffees at the minute.  Good atmosphere and seating and although it is primarily a cafe/restaurant it is still a good place to sit down to a decent cuppa.   Obvoiusly there is a wide variety of food options.  Coffees have been great 4 out of 5

Swamp Cafe Invermay Road

Been a little while since I've been there so I must give it another go.  Didn't much like sitting in this cafe, felt cold and impersonal.  Coffee was ok but not much better than that.  Probably one of the better places in the north side of Launceston but then again there aren't that many other places to go.   2.5 out of 5

Cucina Cafe Margaret Street

Pretty good.  Decent atmosphere and seating.  Probably good to go for for food but not sure I'd go specifically for coffee but still a nice place to sit over a cuppa.  It seems to be a very popular place with the locals from West Launceston and canbe very busy at the weekend.  A good option when other places aren't open.   3 out of 5

Fitzies City Cafe

No No No No.  Don't bother.  Hot milk with some coffee flavouring is how it tasted. 1.5 out of 5

Banjos Bakery Brisbane Street

Not so sure what to say, kind of ok.  Must admit I wasn't expecting too much but it was ok.  Obviously plenty of food available.  Not bad on one side of the cafe where it can be a little less busy. 2.5 out of 5

Bakers Dozen Brisbane Street

I really hope they make good cakes and pies because their coffee is poor.  Tastes more like instant that espresso.  Gave it a few goes just in case, won't be back.  1 out of 5

Cafe Culture Trevallyn

Very hit and miss, which for me makes it a miss.  If you can't get close the same thing each time then I'm not sure its worth it.  I've been told it is under new ownership or management so I'll give it another go, but for now 2.5 out of 5

Butcher's Hook Brisbane Street

Gosh, I've had lunch here a few times and realy enjoyed it.  They put great effort into the food but not much into the coffee I'm afraid.  Bland, badly made and not worth stopping there for it when there are a few you could go to without too much more effort. 2 out of 5

Still Water Ritchies Mill

So far this for me is the benchmark.  They use Vittoria coffee and it tastes magnificent.  Good seating both inside and out with a great spot to sit and lounge away a peaceful moment over a beautifully made cuppa or have a chat with friends.  Newspapers, biscuits and cakes there to satisfy a sugar hit and the soy is apparently the best organic soy used in town.  Go there and enjoy and as Spinal Tap would say 6 out of 5 man.

Cafe Mondello Charles Street

Have only had a couple of coffees here and a couple of takeaways.  All tasted pretty good but not in the top level.  Small interior and had to sit outside in the cold as it gets pretty busy.  With a few other coffee places very near by it doesn't stand out but would still go there again. 3 out of 5

Elaia Charles Street

One of the popular Charles Street strip eateries.  Plenty of options for food and cakes.  A really good standard of coffee always served up.  Comfortable seating indoors and out with free WiFi internet.  Easy to spend a while having a cuppa and catching up on emails or web surfing.  Generally a thumbs up on all coffees.  Coffee card with buy 10 get 1 free.  3 out of 5

Cycle Torque Brisbane Street

At the back of a bicycle shop in Brisbane St across from the theatre.  Another good standard coffee made and served properly.  Biscuits and small menu available.  Daily papers and magazines available too.  Just a few tables and chairs.  Definite pass mark but nothing special. 2.5 out of 5

Tio Rico Paterson Street

Down at the Launceston College end of Paterson Street this has become pretty popular with the staff and students at the college.  Good standard coffee, simple as that.  Coffee flavour is nice and rich with a good crema.  Can get a bit crowded at luchtime but a nice place to sit tune out at other times.

Epic Centreway Arcade

Small "intimate" coffee bar tucked away in the Centreway Arcade.  A really great place to get a consistent excellent coffee.  They use Vittoria and I think I'm a bit of a fan of that coffee blend.  Flat white was perfect for my taste and Cappuccino was spot on.  The espresso taste was smooth and really enjoyable.  A bit if a tight squeeze with a few tables and chairs.  Small variety of food available.  Examiner, mainland papers and magazines all there.  On the downside it can be cold with the door not staying shut and a strong draft into a small space.

In general a great spot that I have been back too many times.  Coffee club card with one in six free. 4 out of 5

Hudsons in St John Street

I really don't get some of the things that the coffee franchises do,  such as offering coffee in a bucket sized takeaway container, like wtf.  Thankfully Hudsons is the kind on franchise coffee shop that still gives you a coffee in a cup.  The coffee itself was a decent flavour and made well at a good temperature.  Espresso and Cappuccino where fine, the flat white lacked a bit of crema and milk feel but worth the stop by.  The interior is pretty relaxed with couches as well as table chairs with pleanty to read and a big TV to goggle at.  Food seems plentiful in variety and served to your table and they have bagels, like for some reason these are as rare in Launceston as Tasmanian Tiger poop.

Generally a good standard spot for a decent coffee without too many bells and whistles.  Would go back again.
